Furlough Scheme - When do employers need to contribute?
The furlough scheme was announced in 2020 as a means for employers to retain their staff during COVID-19.
Under the furlough scheme, employees currently receive 80% of wages for hours not worked, up to a total of £2,500 a month. However, this is set to change from July, as employers will be required to contribute towards their employees’ wages under the scheme.
Employers will be expected to contribute towards 10% of wages for hours not worked in July, increasing to 20% contribution in August and September.
The government has not addressed whether these contributions will be adjusted due to lockdown easing being delayed from 21 June 2021 to 19 July 2021.
