HMRC self-assessment reminder
HMRC is reminding self-assessment taxpayers to declare Covid-19 grants on their 2020/21 tax return. This includes Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) grants, which are deemed taxable income.
It has been reported that more than 2.7 million people claimed at least one of the SEISS grants, up to 5 April 2021.
During the 2020/21 tax year, the government made three SEISS grants available. The application and payment windows are as follows:
First SEISS grant: 13 May 2020 – 13 July 2020
Second SEISS grant: 17 August 2020 – 19 October 2020
Third SEISS grant: 29 November 2020 – 29 January 2021
The self-assessment tax return deadline for online filing is fast approaching
Taxpayers have until 31 January to submit their tax return for the 2020/21 tax year.
